Setting the default object type
Step 1: You can set the default object type for a category while adding a new category or editing an existing one.
For this purpose, enter the module that allows the use of Categories (e.g. module based on Documents), then from the category tree and press the Add document categories button or select an existing category. To edit it, click the Edit document categories button.

Step 2: After the category editing form gets visible, you can set its code, name, description, default type, list and the order in which it should be displayed in the category tree.
The default type applies to the Document type that we will start adding when we use the Add button with a given category selected in the tree.
The list applies to the previously created list in the Settings module. After selecting the created category, only objects will be displayed in accordance with the list selected here.

Category permissions
When creating and editing a category, we can define permissions for it. Powers are divided into three types:
- Users authorized to view. Everyone added in this place can see a given category of documents and have the option of viewing objects that are there, without the possibility of editing.
- Users authorized to add. Everyone added here can see a given category of documents and have the option to add objects to it, without the possibility to edit the existing ones.
- Users authorized to modify. Everyone added here can see a given category of documents and have the option to edit the objects in it and add new ones.
At this point, we can also check the “Inherit permissions” checkbox. Then if a given category has any superior category, it will have the same rights.

Connecting categories to many modules / applications
The category that we have created while in a given module can be set as visible also in other modules.
To do this, edit an existing module or add a new one and select the desired category in its settings (section Relations).
